My Role at Proprium

I joined Proprium as a marketing assistant. Before Proprium I had no professional experience in marketing. I only knew I enjoyed graphic design and social media and that it was something I wanted to develop further and learn more about. What I truly enjoyed about my beginning at Proprium was our experimentation to figure out how to best define my role. After going through many tasks the final main tasks of my role included designing social media visuals, writing social media captions, scheduling social media posts, making and editing various brand assets (CVI, Brandbook, Capabilities Deck), editing the Proprium website and continuously brainstorming ideas for new projects and tasks with other team members.

Every once in a while I would have a new type of task that would keep things interesting whenever the tasks I usually did felt a little repetitive. My role was therefore never boring and if I felt that my creative battery had been drained from all the designing and social media management, I would dedicate my time to more administrative parts of the job before jumping back into creative tasks. This enabled me to have a good balance between my work tasks so my work was rarely tiring.

Typical Day in Proprium

There is truly no typical day at Proprium. You manage your time however you want to and can take into account any responsibilities you have in other areas of life. Some days you will be in a meeting with Laura or your team members, other days will be dedicated to working alone, and some days you might decide not to work. As long as you finish the agreed-upon tasks, you can use your time however you want to. This helped me because I could always consider my university responsibilities, and my social and travel plans and incorporate them properly within my work schedule. Depending on the month you might have more or less work. It will never be too much though and Laura always asks if you can handle it or if you need more time to do something. Mostly everything can be agreed upon as long as it is properly communicated. Your priorities may shift between tasks as the days go by so consider flexibility as your best asset when approaching any work task.

Even though there is no typical day at Proprium, there are steps we need to take to ensure our work is properly recorded. It is important to track the time we spend on tasks, track every meeting we attend, and properly label the tasks we need to do. This gives us an overview of what we have done, what we need to do, and most importantly the amount of time we spent working each week. It might feel like a lot to keep up with at first but after a month of work, it will become a habit. This habit is not only helpful in a work setting but also in my personal life because it enables me to track my goals and be more efficient about achieving them.

Skill Development

Working at Proprium allowed me to develop many of my skills. The skill I developed the most was the ability to connect creativity and rules. When designing social media posts for a company there are various sets of rules you should be following for the visual identity to stay consistent. At first glance, this might seem limiting. But in actuality, it gives you a way to be crafty in your approach to designing. Instead of using new colors and fonts every time, you might be more inclined to experiment with how the text fits on the page, with the icons you are using or the images you add to the visual. Understanding the brand identity and sticking to it makes the brand clearer to a larger audience and shows that you utilized your capabilities to the maximum. I consider this a transferable skill because it will enable me to adapt to any future role.

Besides this, Proprium allowed me to explore many types of programs and software and their role in marketing. I had never heard about many of these software before and I’m glad I was introduced to them and had a chance to learn how to use them. When it comes to soft skills, I learned how to be flexible, how to manage my time better, how to assess priorities, and complete tasks on time. I also learned the importance of being able to keep up with changes and learn as you go. My time at Proprium was a combination of doing tasks I’m very familiar with and continually exploring new ideas and projects.

Impact on Career Goals

Proprium has helped me develop in the field of marketing. I think I have a very solid base that I can present to potential employers if I want to look for a marketing-focused job. Proprium took a hobby of mine and turned it into a viable career path. My time at Proprium flew by and I think it is a great opportunity for any student looking to develop their skills while taking care of other responsibilities. If you have something you like doing and would like to improve in it, Proprium is the perfect opportunity. Laura will give you the tools you need. She will offer guidance but will always listen to your ideas and opinions. Motivation is appreciated and will lead to a lot of improvement in your skills and appreciation from the team.

Learning Opportunities

The thing I learned most about while at Proprium was actually about what Proprium offers within their services. I learned about various types of No-code software, automation, integrations, and implementation. Being a part of Proprium gave me a window into the world of these topics. It was interesting to learn about a completely new field and how that field fits into the business market.

Apart from this, I had an opportunity to attend a few marketing courses that were created by some of the biggest names in the field. I would have probably never attended those courses if it wasn’t for this job so I’m thankful that I had the opportunity to do so. The courses offered me new knowledge about marketing and content creation, knowledge that I would usually have to dig hard to find on my own.

Proprium is full of learning opportunities. From developing skills in your role to soft skills to learning new software, to actual courses - there’s something to learn on every corner. This was perfect for someone like me who is eager to know about as many things as possible. And don’t worry, even if you make mistakes your effort is what is appreciated in the long run.

Conclusion

In my opinion, Proprium was a great place to work as a student. The flexibility, learning opportunities, and communication were all things that were extremely important to me while I was working there. If you want to make some extra income and aren’t afraid to dip your feet into something new, Proprium is a great workplace for you. Working remotely is also invaluable for me as a student. Being able to take two steps from my bed to attend a meeting was something that saved me energy and time while I was dealing with university assignments.

In conclusion, Proprium is a great starting point for anyone who wants to learn more about marketing. I am happy I had the opportunity to be a part of the team and work closely with Laura these past 9 months. If you want a job where you will learn something new, develop the skills you already have, and have enough time left in the day to do whatever else you want, you should join Proprium!
